OSCAR SAMUEL GRANT

Oscar O.S. Grant, Jr. transitioned on December 5^th, 2020 in his hometown of Gonzales, Texas amongst his beloved family and close community

O.S. was born on March 18, 1940, growing up to be a renowned childhood, multi-sport, athlete throughout his academic career at Edwards high School., where he graduated in 1960. His love of sports inclined him to start the first Gonzales football and basketball league; later mentoring his protégé grandson, Keiran Grant, who went on to win the state championship, continuing his legacy at West Point College.

A true, self-taught, musician at heart O.S. picked up his first saxophone and his passion for music was ignited. He kicked off his early career as a radio disc jockey at KCTI, and toured as a solo act, as well as with his band the Downbeats. O.S. was a distinguished writer and recording artist, performing with the likes of Etta James, B.B King, and Bobby Bland. O.S. graced the stage of timeless events including “Come and Take It” and the “Martin Luther King, Jr.” parade.

A family man first, O.S. instilled the gift of music into his 5 children with his former wife, Jennie Taylor Grant, who made up the O.S.G’s. Going above and beyond even as a grandfather, O.S. raised his eldest grandchild, Mark Grant Jr. as his own.

Overall O.S. Grant was a driven, full-fledged, fashion forward, legendary entertainer dedicated to fulfilling his service of connecting with people through his music, creative endeavors, and projects. A head strong man with a charismatic, vivacious personality, and a loyal heart of gold.

O.S. lives through his children Oscar Grant III (Stephanie), Russell Grant (Stephanie), Yvette Grant (Jennae), Mark Grant and Marian Williams. His growing lineage continues through his 18 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

O.S. was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Ella Brooks, his father, O.S. Grant, Sr., his sons, Ornal Ray Grant and Marlon, and his grandchild Terrence.

O.S. was an icon in the Gonzales community and will be MISSED
