Mrs. Joycesteen Jones Johnson was born December 19, 1931 to Frank Logan Jones and Alice McClure Jones. She was the fifth child of six siblings. She passed away peacefully Sunday July 4, 2021 among her family and friends. She united with Providence Baptist Church under Pastor R. R. Reese and was a faithful member before her health failed her. She was a very loving and kind person who was loved by all.
As a youth, she sang in the Jr. Choir. later in life she served on the Senior Usher Board. She loved her job as an usher and always had a smile for everyone that entered the door. Her great grandmother, Rebecca Harris, was a pioneer of this church,
Joycesteen graduated from Edwards High School as Salutatorian of her class 1948. She continued her education at Samuel Houston College in Austin, Tx. She was the first secretary of Edwards High School before integration of the schools.
She was the mother of four children and was married to Will Johnson for twenty-two years before his death. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Karon English Tucy Goudeau, one sister Alice Jones Blair, four brothers, James Erskin Jones, Robert Scott Jones, Hartwell Duval Jones, Frank Logan Jones, Jr. and one son in law Loyd Roberson.
She leaves to cherish her legacy two sons, Norman (Julie) English, Michael (Perla) English, one daughter, Pamela Roberson, all of Gonzales, Tx. Eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, her three grandchildren she raised Krissy, Tricia, and Bianca. Two wonderful nieces Denise and Lisa Bailey and their family nephews Frank Jones 3rd and his family, her brothers' sons, Cory, Keith, & Brian, good friends and mother of two of two her grandchildren, Glenda English, her first cousin and coffee drinking friend Elizabeth Steemer and special daughter Sherrel Steemer. SHE ALSO LEAVES TO CHERISH HER MEMORY COUSINS, FRIENDS, AND SOME CLASSMATES FOR SCHOOL.
Ecclesiastes 9:11 was one of her favorite scriptures: THE RACE IS NOT GIVEN TO THE SWIFT OR STRONG, BUT TO THOSE WHO ENDURE TO THE END.
