Dorothy May Valentine Lindsay was born January 4, 1924, in Gonzales, Texas.  She was one of five children born to Eddie Tatum Valentine and Pinkney Valentine.  Young Dorothy accepted and confessed to Christ at an early age and was a member of Webster Chapel AME, in Gonzales, Texas.  She attended and graduated from Edwards High School in Gonzales where she was crowned queen.

Dorothy worked as an aide and bus driver at Dewitt CoOp in Cuero, Texas.  In Hallettsville, Texas where she raised her family she also worked as a caretaker to many in her community. Dorothy enjoyed caring for others so much, she did not stop until she was 91 years old.

Mrs. Lindsay was most proud of her love of God, her faith, and her church. She was a member of Richardson Chapel UMC in Hallettsville. At Richardson Chapel she was a church leader, usher, and Sunday school teacher. Dorothy loved working with the children in the church because that's the way she was raised.

Preceding Dorothy in death was her loving husband, Benjamin F. Lindsay Jr. Her daughter and son in love, Carolyn Sue and Lacy Fryer Sr, son, and daughter in love Benjamin III and Jossie Lindsay, parents Eddie and Pinkney Valentine, brothers Amil “Big Nat”, George, and James Valentine and her sister Ella May Rowen.

Dorothy, affectionately known as “Ganga” by her family, leaves to cherish her memory:  three grandchildren Lacy Troy and wife Vickie Fryer, Benjamin IV and fiancée Stephanie Vidaurri, Tracy, and husband Artemus Bullard. Six great grandchildren, Lacy “Trey” and Kennedy Fryer, DeMarcus, Consulea and Jayla Lindsay, Artemus “AJ” Bullard Jr., nieces Tina Everett, Dorothy Jean Tatum, ten great great grandchildren and a host of great nieces, great nephews, relatives, and friends.
