Obituary

Reverend David Dwight Ashby was born to the late Jesse V. Ashby and Carey Mae Jones on August 18, 1950.  He attended and graduated from Lincoln-Ball High School in Seguin, Texas.

David was employed at HEB for many years and later was a manager at State Farm.  He later worked in the San Antonio Independent School District before he retired in 2020.

David accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Canaan View Baptist Church in Seguin, Texas by Reverend Farcey, He later united with First Timothy Missionary Baptist Church and was ordained by Minister C. T. Miner. Reverend David Ashby worked diligently with many churches. He preached on many occasions at St. James Missionary Baptist Church “Little New York” in the absence of our late pastor Reverend R. Barnes.  He even joined the church under the leadership of the former Pastor Reverend Sorrell from 2015 – 2016.

Pastor Ashby later pastored his own church, Highway to Heaven for a brief period in 2016. Reverend David Ashby a humble servant of the Lord continued his ministry until his illness prevented him too.

On May 3, 1980, Reverend David was United in Holy Matrimony to Diana Taylor. Together they welcomed six children.

Reverend Ashby departed this life Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Reverend David Ashby was a humble God-fearing man who loved family and all that knew him as well as his pet BLAZE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Ashby and Carey Mae Jones, and brother, David Clyde Hall.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife; Diana Ashby, and children; Genea Payne, Jennifer Carlisle (Terry), Erika Ashby, Lashawn Ashby, Angela Ashby, and Jessica Ashby. Grandchildren; Isaiah Lee, Joshua Lee, Xavier Carlisle. Sisters; Mary Richards (Richard) and Ann Hall. One brother; James Hall and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
